Día de Los Muertos

Pencil, ink, colored pencil & watercolor.

Quien con la esperanza vive, alegre muere.

Self-Portrait. Pencil, pastel, & digital rendering.

“I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best.” -Frida Kahlo

Recently I’ve celebrated a few birthdays with my family. I love making fun cakes. I do it for fun and am no way a professional nor do I wish to be. It just feels good to make something for someone and see them gobble it all up; like an edible mandala.

I used to use props (dinosaurs for a dino riding a train cake) and worked with messy frosting. Lately, I’ve played around with fondant and marzipan.

Boba Fett cake. Fondant and cake from scratch.

Inception cake. Recreated the anti-gravity scene with marzipan and cake. There’s a pumpkin pie baked within each cake. A dream within a dream.

Not to be left behind, these gluten-free sugar skull cupcakes I made recently for my friend, D, corset designer of Starker’s Corsets.
