This weekend, I sent out my sketchbook to the Arthouse Co-op Library in Brooklyn for the Limited Edition Sketchbook Project. The theme of my book was “Time and Distance.” Out of that, I created “Cindy vs Time: a stream of consciousness comic.” First I’d make a text vector or two and then I would write whatever came to my head. Then, I would sketch whatever image came to me from reading the text. Here are a few panels from it.
It was a fun experiment and one that I’m hoping to incorporate in a poetry/comic book manuscript I’m working on. This sketchbook will have a panel published in a book to be released this Fall by the Arthouse Co-op.
For my birthday this year, I had red velvet cupcakes from Bunner’s and a lovely meal prepared by my mother. In the afternoon I went to an afternoon reading to save the High Park Zoo hosted by Tightrope Books and mc’d by Nathaniel G. Moore. I got to hear some lovely readings by Danila Botha, Lisa De Nikolits, Liz Worth, Mike Spry, Myna Wallin, Tara-Michelle Ziniuk, and many other wonderful authors. I also did my first public reading!

It was a sunny day and sitting there with an Italian soda listening to great verse made for an inspirational afternoon. Of course, I wouldn’t be me if I hadn’t bought a few books too.
Earlier that day, my children and husband surprised me with a telescope. I’ve wanted one since I was a kid! We spent the evening seeing the moon up close (looking like the top of a glass of milk), and saw Saturn’s rings for the first time. Venus looked like a flaming jewel.
A fabulous start to the year, I believe.
Sounds great – First public reading? Kudos to you!
Thank you very much! With the exception being at my chapbook launches, this was my first reading in front of people I didn’t know.
I love your illustrations – particularly the green haired woman against the backdrop reminiscent of Starry Night. Gorgeous!
Thank you very much! 🙂
