Starry night.

I finally saw it in person in March 2011:

“Starry Night” by Vincent van Gogh at MOMA.

It was amazing and you don’t truly “know” the painting until you be so close as to see each individual brushstroke. I also saw many others, but what struck me the most were these two.:

Rene Magritte’s “The Menaced Assassin”

Hedda Sterne’s “New York, VIII ” This one really got me. I could easily sit in front of this one and drift off for hours. The more you look, the more you find.

I have many, many tales of my trip to NYC. I have to thank Patti Smith and her lovely memoir “Just Kids” where I read and followed along her travels in person while there. There’s nothing like reading your favorite poet and trying to envision her words while being there in real time. It was an incredible experience.

I’ll be escaping to NYC once a year, every year for an artist/writing retreat. I look forward to it.
